Strongly committed performance
In the United States L’Oréal is committed to a project to build two large solar power plants, which means that 100% of production at its two factories will be powered by renewable energy. In Italy, for the Settimo Torinese plant, the water cycle resources is at the heart of the team’s commitment.
L'Oréal: a leader in solar power in the United States
L'Oréal USA is committed to a project to build two large solar power plants. The Florence plant in Kentucky is to house the largest commercial-use solar generator in the state, with a power rating of 1.5 megavolts and some 5,000 solar panels. Construction began at the end of 2016.At the North Little Rock site, the fourth-largest solar energy project in Arkansas is scheduled to come on stream in spring 2017. Thanks to these projects, L'Oréal USA will be able to cut its CO2 emissions by 80%.
Moving towards a "dry plant" in Italy
The Settimo Torinese plant in Italy combines three approaches to optimise the water cycle. Following improvements to the manufacturing tank cleaning system, the plant has opted since 2014 to treat some of the water used to wash the kids by evapoconcentration: the water is evaporated and filtered, then reused to clean the tanks.

The remaining part of the water is piped to a treatment plant, where the plant introduced a new reverse osmosis system in 2016 to filter and purify the water for reuse. Thanks to these initiatives, the Settimo Torinese factory cut its water consumption by 43% in 2016 compared with 2005, despite increased output.
