Ethics Day: an open dialogue
A signature event championed by Group management.
Ethics Day has become the annual ethics event for L’Oréal employees worldwide. They are invited to send in questions about ethics directly to Jean-Paul Agon, Chairman and CEO of L’Oréal, who answers them during a live webchat. In 2019, Jean-Paul Agon took things even further by answering questions live from a glass studio, visible to all via webcam – proof of the transparency and sincerity of his commitment.
Ethics Day is an additional opportunity for employees to discuss L’Oréal’s four ethical principles – Integrity, Respect, Courage and Transparency – and their everyday application. The event also provides a time to discuss the many ethical questions facing all companies today: diversity, privacy and data protection, conflicts of interest, harassment, corruption, and more.
Dialogue at local level
The dialogue continues in all Group subsidiaries, where each Country Managing Director answers employees’ questions on ethics as they relate to the local context.
The event also includes an online survey that invites all employees to share their opinions and allows the Group to measure the level of ethics commitment worldwide. This exercise is very popular as results are displayed live, allowing teams to follow them in real time.
In 2019, participation reached record levels: 70% of employees around the world took part in the exchanges, asking over 7,000 questions! Although ethics questions are rarely easy, L’Oréal employees understand that the Group addresses them with sincerity.
