A pillar of the French economy
With over 50 brands across seven distribution channels and more than 42 million consumers, L’Oréal is woven into the fabric of daily life in France. A flagship of industry for over a century, the Group has a significant economic and social impact in the country. France is home not only to L’Oréal’s international headquarters but also to the majority of its Research & Innovation investments and a quarter of its global production. Across seven research centres, eleven manufacturing sites and seven administrative hubs, L’Oréal directly employs 15,500 people in France – including 3,500 at L’Oréal France. But the Group’s economic footprint extends far beyond that. Through its network of suppliers, partners and distributors, L’Oréal contributes to nearly 100,000 direct and indirect jobs across the country. Each job at L’Oréal generates 5.2 jobs in the French economy.
This impact is particularly evident in regional economies. In Hauts-de-France in the country’s north, for instance, four L’Oréal factories – including three dedicated to L’Oréal Luxe’s industrial excellence – help sustain nearly 5,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Our ecosystem is as robust as it is diverse: L’Oréal works with nearly 900 suppliers across France, spanning industries as varied as plant cultivation and the production of ecodesigned packaging. We maintain long-term relationships built on trust and mutual growth, supporting our partners in their journey towards a more sustainable future.
Commitment to quality of life
L’Oréal is actively committed to raising public awareness of skincare, supporting more than 15,000 pharmacies and drugstores. Innovation is at the heart of the Group’s purpose, driving the continuous development of more effective solutions backed by rigorous clinical and scientific research. Through its brands – La Roche-Posay, CeraVe, Vichy, SkinCeuticals and Mixa – L’Oréal offers a comprehensive range of skincare products for all skin types and budgets, covering everything from preventive care, such as sun protection, to dermatological treatments for fragile skin. La Roche-Posay is the leading dermocosmetic skincare brand recommended by dermatologists in France.
Our brands are also committed to causes aligned with their core values: La Roche-Posay provides support for individuals experiencing skin discomfort due to cancer treatments, while Vichy continues its research into the effects of hormonal factors on women’s skin health. In 2024, La Roche-Posay partnered with the French government’s national “Move 30 minutes a day!” campaign, promoting the benefits of physical activity and daily sun protection. The La Roche-Posay Anthélios bus tour, which travelled to 13 cities across France, engaged over 15,000 visitors through educational activities. With the same commitment to meeting our consumers, the Mixa “Comfort for your #SensitiveZones” tour visited 16 cities, offering free instant skin diagnostics, expert advice and information on Mixa products developed under medical supervision.
More than 40 years ago, the Group also pioneered the development of reconstructed human skin as an alternative to animal testing. Today, our Episkin laboratories make these human tissue models available to private and public research institutions. These reconstruction techniques are also shared with hospitals to improve treatments for severe burns.
Further reinforcing our commitment to healthcare, L’Oréal joined French Healthcare in 2024. This public-private initiative unites France’s healthcare ecosystem – businesses, researchers, healthcare professionals, and public institutions – to showcase their expertise and innovations globally while fostering collaboration.
Advancing inclusion for people with disabilities
L’Oréal remains steadfast in its commitment to diversity and inclusion. Ranked among the top 10 employers in France, the Group has worked for more than 20 years to develop an exemplary policy to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities, strengthening diversity and fostering acceptance within its teams. In France, L’Oréal’s direct employment rate for people with disabilities is 8.1%, and averages 11% on industrial sites. This commitment was recognised during European Disability Employment Week and Industry Week in November 2024, marked by the visit of the Minister of Industry to our Lassigny factory.
To further promote inclusion, we have expanded initiatives such as sign language training and an internal recruitment forum dedicated to disability inclusion. In our factories, the GLORIA programme facilitates the professional integration and inclusion of employees with autism spectrum disorders. We also continue to drive awareness through talks, workshops, and communication campaigns. Finally, we are proud to champion a team of 10 para-athletes, reaffirming our commitment to excellence in parasports.
115 years of beauty
In 2024, L’Oréal celebrated its 115th anniversary by showcasing its rich heritage with a unique programme for the European Heritage Days. More than 2,200 visitors had the chance to meet our passionate experts and experience the pioneering spirit that drives us, through interactive exhibitions and experiences. Seven of the Group’s most emblematic sites in France opened their doors to the public, from our headquarters in Clichy to our Episkin research centre in Lyon, our state-of-the-art factory in Rambouillet and the La Roche-Posay Thermal Centre.
L’Oréal also unveiled an exclusive partnership with the world’s largest museum, with the “De toutes beautés !” (Of All Beauties) tour at the Louvre, featuring a curated selection of 108 masterpieces spanning nearly 10,000 years of history. Visitors can explore the rituals, artifacts and perceptions that have shaped beauty’s diversity and essence across the ages.
